J.D. Draper, a U.S. Army veteran and longtime restauranteur, has partnered with his son John Draper Jr. to bring the new fast casual chain to the northwest corner of 12 Mile and Telegraph.
Pie Five delivers personal pizzas with a choice of four crusts, seven sauces and 28 toppings cooked to order in a special oven that completes the baking process in 145 seconds. The pizzas start at $6.99.
J.D. Draper has 40 years of experience in the restaurant industry, directing brands like Burger King, Auntie Anne's and Pizza Hut. Together with his son, he owns Wingstop franchises.
"We can"t wait to show the Detroit area a new way to enjoy their favorite pizzas," said the younger Draper. "Pie Five offers fresh ingredients, great value and a fun family-friendly environment that will be a huge hit for this area." A second Southfield location will open next month in City Centre. These will be the 48th and 49th location for the Dallas-based pizza chain. Pie Five operates in 13 states with more than 400 announced company-owned and franchise stores in development.
As part of its grand opening festivities, the Drapers will donate half of Pie Five's sales from pre-opening training to Wish Upon a Teen, which is a nonprofit solely dedicated to helping teenagers dealing with life-limiting illnesses or serious injuries. Their Design My Room program is for teenage patients facing extended hospitalization and makeovers may include new bedding, rugs, posters, movie/sports memorabilia, all based on each teenager's interests and tastes.
