Hilton Expands Dramatically In 2009

(Friday, January 29, 2010) - McLean-based Hilton Worldwide opened more hotels in the last two years than it did during any period in its history, the company announced Tuesday.

Hilton opened 302 hotels and put more than 45,000 rooms on the market during 2009, even though last year was a challenging one for most of the hospitality industry. The new openings build on the momentum started by Hilton in 2008, when it opened 327 properties. The company now has more than 3,500 hotels and 585,000 hotel rooms throughout the world.

Hiltons's statement announced several 2009 milestones, such as the launch of the Home2 Suites by its extended-stay brand and the signing or approval of 281 hotel deals during the year. The privately held company did not disclose revenue numbers for the year or the most recent quarter.

Hilton has plans to open an additional 900 hotels over the next few years.
