Owners Of Jackson Taco Bell Franchises To Open 12th Location By Month's End

(Thursday, October 08, 2009) - The franchise owners of 11 area Taco Bells hope to open their 12th store in Jackson by Halloween. BBG North is opening their next Taco Bell inside the former Guthrie's Chicken building in the Park Place development. The area is to the west of the West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex.

Those hoping to work at the new restaurant can apply for hourly positions at the store on North Highland Avenue.

When asked why franchise owners of the Mexican-style food restaurants would open an eatery where another restaurant had failed, Dale Moulton said, "We feel that the Guthrie's name is not a nationally recognized brand like Taco Bell, and that makes a difference."

Moulton is regional manager for BBG North. He said that while the Sportsplex area is still a "little green," future development makes it impossible to overlook.

"There is tremendous potential there," he said.

Mark Layne, who owns the Park Place property where the Taco Bell will stand, is glad to see a nationally known brand on his site.

"Obviously, after Guthrie's closed," he said, "we considered several possibilities, and we landed on this franchise, which we are excited about."

Moulton said local Taco Bell owners understand that, at least for now, the Park Place development area is subject to seasonal highs and lows in traffic flow. But they expect to be able to weather the slow times while the area is being developed.

"When it is prime time with the baseball season, we will do great," he said, "and even in the off season, with the draw of McDonald's and Sonic being there, we will do fine.
