Marriott International Plants Flag In Hanoi
(Monday, July 20, 2009) -
Marriott International Inc. will manage a new hotel in Hanoi, its first property in Vietnam's capital and only its third in the country.
The 450-room JW Marriott Hotel Hanoi is scheduled to open in 2012 and will be adjacent to the city's new national convention center.
"Vietnam ranks high in our strategic global expansion plans," said Ed Fuller, managing director for international lodging. "Despite the current global economic slump Vietnam remains committed to long-term economic growth and to capitalizing on its attractiveness as a tourism destination."
The hotel will also include four restaurants and more than 23,000 square feet of meeting space.
Marriott currently has two hotels in Vietnam, both in Ho Chi Minh City. It also plans a JW Marriott property in Danang, scheduled to open in 2013.
Marriott International (NYSE: MAR) has deals to manage more than 50 hotels currently under construction in Asia, in addition to 111 properties in 16 Asian countries it already runs.
