Tim Hortons, Cold Stone Owner Expand Partnership
(Thursday, June 11, 2009) -
Tim Hortons Inc. and Kahala Corp., the privately held owner of Cold Stone Creamery, said Thursday they would expand their partnership to create co-branded stores at locations in Canada. The two companies said earlier this year that they would create up to 100 co-branded stores -- 50 from each chain -- that will offer customers both ice cream and coffee shop fare.
On Thursday, they added six Tim Hortons restaurants in Canada to the initiative. They are in Mississauga, Hamilton, Toronto, Oakville and Pickering.
Coffee and baked goods chain Tim Hortons is one of the largest quick service chains in Canada and operates more than 500 locations in the U.S.
Existing Cold Stone and Tim Hortons locations in Michigan, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Maine and Connecticut were considered as places to offer both brands, the companies said in its initial announcement. It said 38 restaurants have been remade to include both brands.
Other companies have experimented with co-branding, including Baskin-Robbins and Dunkin' Donuts.
Tim Hortons shares rose 10 cents to $26.64 in afternoon trading.
