Marriot Intīl To Add 40 Hotels In China Within 4 Years

(Friday, May 15, 2009) - Marriott International Inc, one of the world's top luxury hoteliers, said Tuesday that it plans to add about 40 hotels in China within four years, Shanghai Daily reports.

In Shanghai, the company will expand its properties from the current 10 ones to 21 ones in the next four years. Before the opening of Shanghai World Expo 2010, Marriott will have 14 hotels ready to welcome visitors. The company is expanding into China's second tier cities, such as Hangzhou, Nanjing, Dalian, Chengdu and Ningbo, the company will also attach great importance, since demand is growing rapidly in these cities.

Geoff Garside, the company's executive vice president for Asia Pacific, said that around 40 hotels, which are spanned from luxury to moderately priced brands, will help the company double its China portfolio to 70 properties over the next four years.

Garside also said that the company will always focus on domestic guests along with those from US and Japan, because they contribute the most incoming traffic for Marriott hotels in China.
