New Five Guys Franchise Serves Up Burgers, Fries

(Thursday, March 12, 2009) - There's a new hamburger joint in town. Five Guys Burgers and Fries opened Wednesday at 2805 Washington Road in Augusta.

It is the first Five Guys in the Augusta market, but franchise owners Rose and Rodney Moss plan to open locations in Evans, North Augusta, Aiken and near Augusta Mall in the next three to four years.

"We're glad to have this spot. It's a great location," Mr. Moss said.

Five Guys employs 45 workers.

"I am so impressed with them. We really are blessed with the staff that we have," Ms. Moss said.

The Alexandria, Va., restaurant chain is popular for its fresh ground beef hamburgers, french fries that are cut fresh daily, and free toppings that include grilled onions, jalapeño peppers and A-1 sauce.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries has 394 restaurants nationwide and plans to open 150 this year. The chain was founded by Jerry Murrell, who has strict guidelines for his franchises. The menu hasn't changed since its founding in 1986, Mr. Moss said.

"We had to train our staff and make sure they were ready for the opening. At Five Guys, we've got to do it perfect. We don't want anyone to go away disappointed," Mr. Moss said.
