Sonny's And The University Of South Alabama Pig Out

(Monday, October 08, 2007) - Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q and the University of South Alabama (USA) held its first ever Greek Pig Out on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at the university's Student Government Association Pavilion. The main event was a two-round rib eating contest, challenging contestants to eat as much rib meat as possible within three minutes.

The winner of the 2007 Greek Pig Out was Jared Blackwell, a University of South Alabama student, who received a custom trophy, one year worth of Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q, a $300 gift card to University of South Alabama's bookstore and "immortalization" at Sonny's on Schillinger Rd. Along with the contest, students enjoyed free food from Sonny's, music and dancing, intramural games, a Greek Step Show, and prizes like custom logo t-shirts and free lunch certificates.

The Sonny's Greek Pig Out is another way Sonny's is staying involved in the community. "When you visit cities like Auburn, AL all you see are Auburn's orange and blue tiger prints posted around and in local businesses. The University of South Alabama is a great school and we want to create the same welcoming feeling when students visit our restaurant," says Scott Frantz, Partnering Franchise Owner of Sonny's in Mobile, Alabama. Sonny's is now making plans to incorporate USA's red, white and blue to their Schillinger Road location door scheme.
