Berjaya Corp Gets Rights For Wendy's Franchise In Malaysia

Malaysian conglomerate Berjaya Corp. Bhd (3395.KU) said Friday it has got the franchise rights to develop and operate Wendy's restaurants in Malaysia.
In a filing with the stock exchange, Berjaya Corp. said its unit Nadi Klasik Sdn. Bhd. has signed a development agreement with Wendy's International Inc. ( WEN).
It said Nadi Klasik plans to open more than 70 Wendy's stores over the next 10 years.
Wendy's, one of the world's biggest restaurant franchises, opened its first restaurant in Asia in 1980 and currently has 150 stores throughout the Asia- Pacific region.
"The acquisition of the franchise rights to develop and operate Wendy's restaurants will complement (the Berjaya group's) existing F&B operations and it is expected to generate cashflow and profitability for the group," Berjaya Corp. said.
Berjaya Corp. currently holds the rights to operate Starbucks Coffee and Kenny Rogers Roasters stores in Malaysia.
