Think Outside The Bun In Pratt; Taco Bell Franchise Breaks Ground East Of Wal-mart
(Wednesday, October 10, 2007) -
Dirt is moving and site plans have been submitted for a new Taco Bell in Pratt.
The Taco Bell will be located in a grass area on the east side of the parking lot at Wal-Mart. Dirt is already being moved as the first step in construction of the building.
A Taco Bell franchise owner has applied for a building permit and that permit approval is expected on Friday, said Pratt City Manager Dave Howard.
"We've reviewed the site plan and there are no problems," Howard said.
The grassy area east of Wal-Mart was platted separately from the store and parking lot so there are no issues with building construction.
Locating a Taco Bell in Pratt has been in the works for over a year and a half with various parties.
"I've heard talk about it for some time," Howard said.
Two to three weeks ago the city had contact with a surveyor and architect about the project. The city received the site plans on Friday, Oct. 5. The franchise owner wanted to move quickly with the project so the city staff got together and reviewed the plans over the weekend.
Howard and new city inspector Lonnie McCollum reviewed the plans. No problems were found and there was nothing to keep them from moving forward. There were no set back issues and no problem at all with zoning issues, Howard said.
The platted land has been sold to the area franchise owner so this is not a Wal-Mart project Howard said.
The new Taco Bell will be a 2,600 square foot facility, seat at least 45 and have a drive through. There will be green space around the building so it will be an attractive building and a nice addition to Pratt. The addition of Taco Bell is a positive sign of the growth in Pratt, McCollum said.
"I think it's another indication that Pratt is growing," McCollum said. "For a company of this scale to want to come to come in and put in a restaurant and move on it quickly means they see the potential in Pratt."
The area of the store is marked and dirt is being moved now. Work is expected to start in earnest within a week to 10 days.
