Pac Conference - 7 October 2007, Birmingham

Book now...for a brighter outlook

(Monday, June 11, 2007) - SOME of the leading names in the optical industry have joined forces with Specsavers' Professional Advancement Committee to ensure the forecast for this year's PAC Conference is brighter than ever before.

Europe's biggest one-day optics conference will offer three parallel lecture programmes and - new for this year - an all-day trade exhibition featuring key industry suppliers of ophthalmic lenses, contact lenses and optical equipment.

The annual clinical conference, now in its 13th year, has firmly established itself as a key date in the educational calendar - regularly attracting well over 1,000 delegates. This year's event, entitled 'For a brighter outlook…' takes place on Sunday 7th October at the ICC, Birmingham, from 9am-5pm.

Open to all UK practitioners, not just Specsavers employees, the PAC Conference has a deserved reputation for top-quality, entertaining and flexible CET programmes. Three parallel tracks - clinical, dispensing and contact lenses - will allow delegates to move freely between lecture programmes, while a state-of-the-art barcode scanning system ensures their CET credits are recorded.

With student workshops running alongside the main programmes, Q&A opportunities after each session, and a specially commissioned series of MCQ quizzes in paper-based and CD-rom format, this year's event promises a fully interactive experience, at a great value-for-money price, plus a vibrant environment in which to meet and catch-up with colleagues.

Six CET credits are available for each lecture programme, with up to 8 credits available through four MCQ quizzes.

Programmes are tailored to enhance existing knowledge and skills, minimise professional risk and keep delegates up to date on the latest developments within the optical industry. Topics include fitness to practise, non-organic vision loss, dispensing for dyslexia, immunology, cataract surgery, sport vision, contact lens care systems, strabismus, and Freeform Progressives.

Delegates will hear from an impressive line-up of experts from a variety of different backgrounds including optometric and dispensing practice, ophthalmology, research, manufacturing, legal and education.

Highlights include Dr Rachael Peterson, from the University of Waterloo in Canada, who will present on grading scales & diagnostic dyes in everyday contact lens practice; Donald Cameron, former AOP Chairman, discussing how to avoid an appearance before the GOC; Dr Frank Eperjesi, of Aston University, on dealing with non-organic vision loss; and the flamboyant Brian Tompkins who will be sharing some secret ingredients for contact lens success
