Tgi Friday's Is Finally Here!
BARBADOS (Monday, August 27, 2007) -
AFTER a long, patient wait, Barbadians will finally be able to experience the world renowned TGI Fridays brand. Last Wednesday, the pioneer in casual dining opened its 300th branch at the Hastings Pavilion in Christ Church, amidst great fanfare and festivity. Despite being an American brand, aspects of local culture were involved in the celebrations, with stilt walkers, jumbies, tuk band, mother sally, a fire eater, local artists and dancers all present to greet the many dignitaries that were invited to the momentous occasion. The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by the overwhelming energetic staff, which went around chanting TGIF praises, as well as more than adequately meeting the needs and requests of those in attendance.
A number of traditional acts were witnessed at the opening, such as the presentation of a gold cross pen to general manager Lisa Lynch, used to sign the establishments first dollar, which is to be placed on a propeller that symbolises the engine of the company. As customary at all openings of new branches, all officials, including Prime Minister Arthur, who gave the feature address, were invited to partake in a shot of Jack Daniels.
There was also a cake cutting, in addition to other presentations to the management team of the new branch; as well as a presentation by Dane Darbasie, CEO of Prestige Holdings, the regional franchise holder for TGI Fridays, to Mike Ouk, International Director of Operations for Carlson Restaurants Worldwide, the owner of the TGI Fridays brand.
Lynch, who has ten years experience in the hospitality sector, stated that their capacity exceeds 200, to be catered to by a staff of between 80 to 100 persons, all subject to extensive, ongoing training.
