Electric Car Delivers Attention To Domino's

LAFAYETTE (Wednesday, August 22, 2007) - he familiar red, white and blue Domino's Pizza logo now adorns a three-wheel, all-electric ZAP (Zero Air Pollution) vehicle, which is being used for deliveries and promotional purposes in Greater Lafayette.

"We took it out to Boiler Gold Rush and all the kids were swarming to it. They were taking pictures of it with their cell phones," said René Flores, owner of the two Domino's franchises in Lafayette and single locations in West Lafayette, Frankfort and Zionsville.
Designed by the Electric Vehicle Co., the ZAP attracts plenty of attention, whether it's sitting outside a Domino's store or en route to making a pizza delivery.
"Everybody asks, 'What is this thing?' It's considered a (motorcycle) but it looks like a car," said Flores. "It's registered as a motorcycle, but with four doors and a steering wheel -- I think it's a car."
With the price of gasoline again nudging $3 a gallon, alternative fuel vehicles are looking more and more attractive to Flores.
"There are vehicles out there that don't require gas and are great for in-town driving," he said. The ZAP "is slower on hills and there's no air-conditioning, but it has a heater and a radio."
The vehicle can be driven about 40 miles before it needs to be recharged, which can be accomplished through a regular household electric outlet.
