51-year-old Lethbridge Entrepreneur Launches Second Career

Terry Gaebel who spent upwards of 35 years in the oil & gas and trucking industries is looking forward to his new career in retail.

(Wednesday, August 22, 2007) - At a time when many in his age group are contemplating

retirement, 51-year-old Terry Gaebel is gearing up for the biggest challenge of

his life – as one of the new co-owners of MEDIchair Lethbridge.

"This is by far the biggest challenge in my life so far, but it is one that I am

blessed to have the opportunity to go for it," says Terry Gaebel, MEDIchair

Lethbridge's General Manager and Co-owner. "When the opportunity

presented itself with the retirement of former MEDIchair Lethbridge owner

Gene Mandin, a group of us (including Ruth Laurie and Sherry Kenna) saw

the home medical equipment field as a tremendous growth opportunity in

the Lethbridge area and we decided to collectively go for it."

After being mentored by Mandin for several months, Gaebel and his

seven person staff have been hard at work making upgrades to the

store and customer service. "We made several design and layout

changes to maximize the administration side of the business as well

as the in-store buying experience for our customers," explains Gaebel.

One of those changes includes regular in-store surveys to gauge customer

feedback.

"We have also made enhancements in several areas including our

customer pick up and delivery service," says Co-owner Ruth Laurie.

"As an example, if a potential Lethbridge customer is housebound

and they want to try out a scooter, we deliver a demo model to their

door, educate them about its safe operation, and provide them with

a demo test-drive. It is all about one-to-one customer service."

Co-owner Sherry Kenna noted that as the population in the Lethbridge

grows older, so to will the need for home medical equipment.

"People are also living longer than in previous generations and

many are choosing to stay in their homes rather than move to a

senior's residence," says Kenna. "That's where MEDIchair Lethbridge

can help them to maximize their quality of life."

Gaebel, Laurie and Kenna also hinted that with growth would

also come expansion to new and larger facilities, perhaps within

the next two years. They also added that plans are in the works

to offer a full line of medical uniforms to the fast growing health

care and medical sectors.
