Sacramento Region Church's Chicken Franchisee Expands In Arizona

(Monday, August 06, 2007) - Church's Chicken has transfered 36 restaurants in Arizona, Georgia and Mississippi to franchisees as part of a strategy calling for selling company-owned stores in select markets to proven franchisees, including a Sacramento franchisee, and the company's acquisition of restaurants in other markets.

"This is one of several of Church's strategic initiatives to fuel new store development and to maximize operating efficiencies in both company and franchise markets," said Scott Moffitt, vice president of franchise sales and development for the chain founded in San Antonio in 1952. "For existing franchisees this is a great opportunity to expand their business at a very rapid pace. It also represents an attractive opportunity to recruit new operators to the Church's system."

The Arizona deal calls for Tony Lutfi of Sacramento to purchase 10 company-owned stores in the Tucson/Nogales market through Mar-Lu Arizona LLC. It may also involve creation of additional locations.

In other markets, the company is exploring the acquisition of restaurants from Church's Chicken franchisees, as well as acquisition of other restaurants for conversion into Church's Chicken. Church's development team has retained Atlanta-based Brookwood Advisors to assist in these acquisitions.

The company plans to open 100 new restaurants by the end of this year. As of February, the chain had more than 1,600 locations worldwide in 18 countries with system sales topping $1 billion, according to the company's press release Monday.
