Re/max Franchise Is Taking Off

(Thursday, June 21, 2007) - GLOBAL estate agency group RE/MAX is set to double its presence in the Northern Ireland house sales market, the firm announced yesterday.
Now established as the biggest chain in the Province – with 18 branches opened since 2005 – the firm said it intended to add a further 16 offices and 100 jobs within the next two years.

RE/MAX was established in 1975, when Dennis Curtin opened the first franchise office in Kansas City.

The Irish-American entrepreneur brought the concept across the Atlantic in 1999 and has since opened 64 offices in the Republic.

Speaking in Bangor, he said the firm aimed to provide a better deal for consumers and handle 30 per cent of the market.

"One of the strategies I had was not to come to the North until I had my infrastructure in place and the people on the ground," he said.

"We've had a great response and some great successes and gradually it just crept up and the next you know we have 18 offices now."

Worldwide the company has almost 7,000 outlets in 65 countries.

With 132 people currently employed in the Province, Mr Curtin said interest in the franchise was very healthy.

"RE/MAX is different because our franchisees and agents are self-employed," he said.

"Their success depends on enterprise, initiative and going the extra mile to provide the outstanding service that house buyers and sellers deserve.

"If there's one thing our company's been known for in the last 35 years it's putting a huge amount of resources into our people and our training and just trying to bring up the standards.

"We take the approach that every customer we deal with is possibly a relationship for life."
