Youngsters 'Pay To Play' At Bounceu

(Saturday, June 11, 2005) - Now that school's out, Shari Irion is looking for ways to help her four children to expend their exuberant energy.

Irion, 41, has found BounceU to be the perfect air-conditioned play place.

"To go outside, you have to worry about sunscreen and is it going to be too hot," Irion said. "This way, they're all in one place, confined to one room. And boy, they come out absolutely wiped out."

BounceU, 1166 S. Gilbert Road, Suite 110, formerly Bounce Zone, features giant inflatable play structures.

"It offers a variety of jumping equipment so it can appeal to the older kids and also the younger ones," said Irion, who kids are age 6, 9, 10 and 12.

"It's so open that there's just so many different ages that can play at the same time."

Her third child just celebrated her birthday with a party at BounceU.

The business features two warehouse-size rooms filled with giant inflatable toys.

BounceU operates primarily on reservations, catering mostly to birthday parties, field trips, sports teams and corporate parties. Parties cost from $190 to $235 for a basic two-hour party for up to 25 bouncers.

The facility is designed for kids 3 and older. Walkers up to 3 years can go in, but the company recommends an accompanying adult since the equipment is quite big. Most kids are 3 to 10.

BounceU offers open bounce sessions scheduled each week where individuals can come in and "pay to play." However, it is more like a skating rink, with pre-set start and end times.

For example, 1 to 3 p.m., every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, throughout the summer is open play. BounceU also has a family bounce night. Information: (480) 632-9663 or www.bounceu.com.
