Medichair Nanaimo Hosts Scooter Safety Course For Seniors May 10

RCMP, BC Transit, Scooter manufacturers and Occupational Therapists will be on hand to discuss and demonstrate electric scooter safety for the elderly.

NANAIMO (Friday, May 04, 2007) - MEDIchair Nanaimo will host its first ever Mobility Scooter Safety Course

on the parking lot of its store at 2517 Bowen Road. In addition to presentations and hands-on

demonstrations from safety and industry professionals, participants can test drive scooters and

power wheel chairs through a safety course. "We are one of the largest suppliers of mobility

scooters on Vancouver Island," says Mickey Jahelka, co-owner, MEDIchair Nanaimo. "We

believe strongly in giving back to the community and educating the public about the proper

and safe use of these mobility scooters."



Jahelka explained that MEDIchair Nanaimo would have approximately 50 electric scooters

and power wheel chairs on hand for presentations and demonstrations from representatives

from the RCMP, BC Transit, Occupational Therapists, and scooter manufacturers.



"We are expecting to showcase a scooter friendly transit bus and a converted van on

location to demonstrate how easy it is to get in and out these vehicles using a scooter

or wheel chair," says co-owner Lynn Jahelka. "We are also encouraging current scooter

owners to bring their scooters to the event for a free inspection by one of our expert

technicians who will check for such items as tire inflation and battery condition."



The event is free to the public. Complimentary hot dogs and refreshments will be served

and door prizes awarded. Lynn Jahelka added that if people could call the store (756-9875)

to pre-register for the public event, it would be appreciated.

will be available for registered participants who can test drive and practice safe riding
