Pizza Pizza To Test-market Chicken And Ribs Menu Offering In Selected Ottawa, Western Quebec Restaurants
OTTAWA (Monday, February 05, 2007) -
Adding further diversity to an already varied menu offering, Pizza Pizza, Canada's leading pizza-maker in terms of slices sold, is introducing chicken and ribs in 35 of its restaurants in the Ottawa, western and northern Quebec regions.
"These regions are serving as test markets for our new chicken-and-ribs product line," said Pat Finelli, Vice-President of Marketing for Pizza Pizza. "The plan is to assess the results achieved in the test markets, with the intention to eventually roll out this menu offering throughout our entire chain."
Pizza Pizza is believed to be one of the first in the Canadian quick-service-restaurant category to offer chicken, cooked in trans-fat free oil, ribs and pizza on the same menu selection. Pizza Pizza entered the chicken market in 1993 with the introduction of chicken items. The success of those products encouraged an expansion of the chicken line.
"Diversifying our menu offering by introducing chicken and ribs is a natural evolution of the Pizza Pizza branding," noted Mr. Finelli. "We know, from market studies and general feedback from customers, that the more choice you can provide, the better it is for consumers. Everyone has different tastes, and we believe the expansion of chicken and introduction of ribs will enhance the overall eating experience at Pizza Pizza."
Mr. Finelli said the chicken, which is supplied mainly by Maple Leaf Foods, will be served in portions that are at minimum 25 per cent larger than that of its competitors. The ribs portion will be individually cut and cooked in a new Pizza Pizza sweet rib sauce. The rib sauce will also be sold as a dipping sauce. Both the chicken and ribs will take under 10 minutes to prepare.
In addition to central Ottawa locations, Pizza Pizza's new chicken and ribs offering will be available at Pizza Pizza's Ontario restaurants in Vanier, Gloucester, Nepean, Orleans, Kanata, Stittsville, Cornwall, Renfrew, Smiths Falls, Barrhaven, Manotick, Petawawa and Ottawa. The Quebec-based restaurants include those in Gatineau, Aylmer, Hull, Rouyn and Val-d'Or.
