Smartbox, The Supply Room Companies Conclude Campaign For Hurricane Katrina Relief
Pair combines for more than 50,000 pounds of donated items

Richmond companies SMARTBOX and The Supply Room Companies today conclude their campaign to collect donated items for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
SMARTBOX and The Supply Room Companies are proud to announce that as a result of the generosity of Richmond residents and companies, they shipped more than 50,000 pounds of donated supplies to distribution centers and churches in Mississippi and Louisiana.
The companies began collecting items ranging from canned goods and toiletries to water and clothing in early September at more than 20 Richmond-area locations. Items were stored in SMARTBOX storage units and shipped via trucks to hurricane-ravaged areas.
"The outpouring of donations and help from businesses and residents in the Richmond metro area has been amazing," said Jim Flore, project manager for SMARTBOX. "We thank everyone for their generosity and support of the victims of this devastating hurricane."
The collection brought out the best in several Richmond companies and people. Some of the highlights include:

Boy Scouts and volunteers from Beaverdam, Ashland and Midlothian readied more than 30 pallets of goods for shipment ESPN 950's Al Coleman and Greg Burton and WAUQ's Chris Kinsel promoted the collection, with Coleman hosting a cookout at his collection spot during his show Thanks to Lite 98's Kat Simons and HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Virginia, a SMARTBOX filled with pet supplies was collected SMARTBOX's franchise in Charlotte, N.C., also collected items for distribution Of special note, Mike Lowe, president and CEO of SMARTBOX announced today that SMARTBOX will be opening a local franchise in the New Orleans area this month to help residents with their portable storage needs.
