International Caregiving Company's Founder Named Entrepreneur Of The Year

Paul Hogan, founder and chief executive officer of Home Instead Senior Care, receives one of the highest honors in franchising

(Sunday, April 15, 2007) - Paul Hogan, founder and chief executive officer of Home Instead Senior Care, has been named Entrepreneur of the Year – one of the highest honors in franchising – by the International Franchise Association (IFA). The award was presented Sunday, February 25th, during the opening session of the IFA's 47 th annual convention in Las Vegas.

First presented in 1982, this award is conferred upon an individual who is actively building a successful business. Hogan and his wife, Lori, founded Home Instead Senior Care in 1994. The company now has more than 700 franchises in the United States and 10 other countries.

"The foundation of franchising is built upon the visions of leaders like Paul Hogan," said International Franchise Association President Matthew Shay. "Paul's ability to create a concept that not only meets the important needs of today's growing population of seniors, but offers small-business opportunities for future generations, is evidence of his unique entrepreneurial talents."

A personal caregiving situation prompted Hogan and his wife to found the company 13 years ago. Helping to care for his grandmother for 12 years brought home the need in his own family for non-medical senior care and companionship that could help seniors live independently at home.

In 1995, Home Instead Senior Care was one of the first organizations to apply the franchising model to the home care industry and take that concept international. The company now has offices in 48 states as well as Canada, Japan, Portugal, Australia, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Spain, New Zealand, Taiwan and Switzerland.

As a result, Home Instead Senior Care has been recognized as a leader in the industry, earning nearly 30 local and national awards and recognitions. To date, the company provides 20 million hours of service annually and has served nearly 300,000 clients. Home Instead Senior Care provides more than 60 services including companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands and shopping.

Hogan's dedication to the community is evident through his involvement with targeted charitable giving. In 2003, the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation was established and has awarded 30 grants totaling $320,000 since its inception. The Home Instead Senior Care Disaster Relief Foundation and the "Be a Santa to a Senior" community service program have had a significant impact on the lives of seniors as well.

In 2002, Hogan was also instrumental in helping to found the National Private Duty Association (NPDA), the nation's first association for providers of private duty home care, which includes non-medical home care services.
