Wingstop Franchise Reports 14th Consecutive Quarter of Comp Store Sales Increase
(Tuesday, January 16, 2007) -
Wingstop announced today 2006 year-end sales and growth figures. The chicken-wing-only chain's comp store sales increased 13.6 percent in 2006 with 14 consecutive quarters of comp store increases. Wingstop's system-wide sales increased 29.7 percent from $118.5 million in 2005 to $153.7 million in 2006. The company's new store openings grew by 18 percent from 271 units that were opened by year end 2005 to 321 units opened by year end 2006. The rapidly-growing chain expects to open an additional 70 stores in 2007.
"It was a banner year all the way around," said James Flynn, Wingstop CEO. "It's so rewarding to see our stores mature and increase their customer base each month. Everyone in the chain looks forward to the weekly reports and continuing this extended streak of quarterly comp store increases."
In 2006 Wingstop extended its partnership with Troy Aikman, three-time Super Bowl champion and Hall of Fame inductee. Aikman originally signed on as Wingstop's national spokesperson in October 2003; the new three-year agreement will extend the partnership through 2009.
"We're also proud to have received the Wing King Award at the 2006 National Buffalo Wing Festival, a recognition for being the best overall wing company," said Flynn. "And, another big development with our chain last year was in beginning to test online ordering. It went over so well, we're rolling out the test to 100 stores this year. We expect that the convenience to our customers will increase sales significantly."
About Wingstop: Wingstop offers restaurants with a nostalgic, aviation-themed atmosphere where the sole focus is on chicken wings. The chain now serves boneless wing strips that are made from 100 percent all-white meat chicken breast coated with a proprietary batter and breading. Wingstop features nine wing flavors, including Original Hot, Cajun, Atomic, Mild, Teriyaki, Lemon Pepper, Hawaiian, Garlic Parmesan, and Hickory Smoked BBQ. The wings are always made-to-order and served steaming hot. Customers can also choose from homemade side dishes: fresh-cut seasoned fries, bourbon baked beans, pearl potato salad, creamy cole slaw, vegetable sticks, rolls and assorted dipping sauces.
Wingstop has more than 550 restaurants either open or under development in 25 states and consistently tops industry growth rankings. Wingstop was chosen Festival Favorite Restaurant at the 2005 National Buffalo Wing Festival and their Cajun sauce took first place honors for the Best Creative Spicy Sauce in the festival's blind taste test. In July 2005, Wingstop ranked number 13 in Restaurant Business' Top 50 Growth Chains (ranked by percentage increase in units) and was ranked the number one chicken wing chain by Entrepreneur magazine in 2005.
