A Bird-brained Idea Or Brilliant Marketing?
(Tuesday, January 30, 2007) -
Corporate employees of El Pollo Loco were flying high after Sunday night's airing of NBC-TV's hit reality show, The Apprentice: Los Angeles, in which the 359-unit flame-grilled chicken chain was featured. In the episode, the two competing teams were challenged to create their own version of the chain's signature "Pollo Bowl®" and rack up the most sales with creative marketing and point-of-sale promotions. One of The Apprentice contestants, Marisa, ruffled a few feathers by suggesting that her team hire two chicken mascots to call attention to motorists entering and exiting the freeway. While her teammates thought the idea "fowl," El Pollo Loco employees demonstrated their support for Marisa during a private company Apprentice viewing party, inviting two El Pollo Loco chicken mascots to defend their flock. Unfortunately, the chickens were a bit too late ... Marisa was fired. View all El Pollo Loco Press Releases This article has been read 292 times.
