Sports-themed Barber Shop Opens

WEST LAFAYETTE, INDIANA (Thursday, September 07, 2006) - A hair cut and a home run.

A shampoo and a slam dunk.

Those are among the services available to men and boys at Sport Clips, the latest business to open in the Lafayette Pavilions shopping complex.
"We're trying to capture the feeling people had when they went to barber shops," said John Mills, a Kokomo native who owns the Lafayette franchise with his wife, Christine.

"We looked at real estate around the state and chose Lafayette Pavilions. The traffic counts on this corner are the highest I've seen."

Hardwood at the entry to the 1,590-square-foot business resembles a basketball floor, while the eight-chair haircutting area has a green floor to emulate a baseball field.

Beyond that, the shampoo area has been labeled "The Showers."

The entire store, which opened for business Wednesday, is decorated with sports teams- and individual athlete-related banners, posters, wastebaskets and other items. Television sets throughout the building are constantly tuned to sports news and contests.

Prices for haircuts are $14 for adults and $12 for children 11 and under. A hair cut, shampoo and hot towel cost $17 and The M.V.P. -- a haircut, shampoo, conditioner, hot towel and neck and shoulder massage -- is $19.
