(Friday, August 04, 2006) - At the July 25th hearing of the Congressional Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity, Geoff Lewis, senior vice president and chief legal officer of RE/MAX International, provided both written and oral comments to the hearings. In his comments, Lewis expands not only the position of RE/MAX International on the primary question before the subcommittee - "whether or not the real estate industry is truly competitive" - but also addresses side issues surrounding recent discussions on commission rates, Internet companies and other new business models, access to Multiple Listing Services, whether or not limited service requirements are needed, restrictions on rebates, whether banks should be allowed to enter the real estate brokerage business and the roles of state and federal governments regarding the industry.
