Sonic Announces Election Of Board Members
(Thursday, February 02, 2006) -
Sonic Corp. (NASDAQ/NM: SONC), the nation's largest chain of drive-in restaurants, announced that Kathryn L. Taylor has been named to its Board of Directors. Her election was announced at Sonic's annual stockholders' meeting, which was held earlier this week. Re-elected to the Sonic board for three-year terms were directors Mike Maples and Frank Richardson. Taylor served as Secretary of Commerce and Tourism for the state of Oklahoma, a governor-appointed post she held since 2003. She recently resigned her state position to seek election to the Tulsa mayor's office. As Secretary of Commerce and Tourism, Taylor oversaw state economic development and tourism agencies and represented more than 2,000 state employees. Prior to serving in her state capacity, Taylor spent more than a decade in the travel industry as a senior officer of a "Fortune 100" company. Taylor also has experience in franchising as an attorney and business advisor, representing franchisors expanding their concepts in the United States, Europe and Asia. "Kathy brings a relevant mix of experience and skills to the board. Her understanding of franchising, her business savvy, legal background and hands-on management experience will add tremendous value to Sonic and our stockholders," said Cliff Hudson, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Sonic Corp. Maples is the former Executive Vice President of World Products Group for Microsoft Corp. He joined the board in 2005. Richardson has served as a director since the company went public in 1991 and currently serves as Lead Independent Director of the Board. Richardson is Chairman of F.E. Richardson & Co., Inc. of New York City, a position he has held since 1995. Sonic, America's Drive-In, originally started as a hamburger and root beer stand in 1953 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, called Top Hat Drive-In, and then changed its name to Sonic in 1959. The first drive-in to adopt the Sonic name is still serving customers in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Sonic now has more than 3,000 drive-ins coast to coast and in Mexico, where more than a million customers are served every day.
