Solid Sales Momentum Continues in Second Quarter

(Monday, February 27, 2006) - Sonic Corp. (NASDAQ/NM: SONC), the nation's largest chain of drive-in restaurants, today announced that the company will participate in Bear Stearns' 12th Annual Retail, Restaurants & Consumer Conference, which takes place in New York City, March 7-9. The investor presentation by Sonic's management is scheduled at 3:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 8, 2006, and will be available to investors via a live audio webcast. Separately, the company reported that estimated system-wide same-store sales during its second quarter were above the long-term target range of a 2% to 4% increase. Additionally, because of the mild weather experienced during much of the quarter, the impact of higher utility costs is now expected to be less than previously anticipated. Because of the solid sales and margin performance, management is comfortable with the high end of its previously announced earnings outlook of $0.20 to $0.21 per diluted share for the second quarter ended February 28, 2006. The company expects to report second quarter results after the market close on March 20, 2006.
