7-eleven® Is Emergency Halloween Headquarters

(Tuesday, October 31, 2006) - Know what's really scary? Having the second biggest holiday sneak up on you and catch you unprepared. According to the National Retail Federation, Halloween is second only to Christmas in dollars spent on decorating by Americans, and sixth in overall spending – mainly because it is a non-gift-giving holiday (Christmas, Valentine's, Mother's and Father's Day are ahead).

Today's the day, and so far you have spent no dollars. No candy, no costumes … and no time. Maybe that's why 7-Eleven® stores sell more Halloween merchandise on Halloween than any other day in October. "Our role is to be here for our time-crunched customers with the products they need," said Wes Hargrove, 7-Eleven product director for non-foods. "On Halloween, that means masks and wigs, flashlights and trick-or-treat bags and, of course, candy."

Hargrove said that this year, even Slurpee® beverages are getting spooked with special Halloween Slurpee® straws. A particular favorite are the vampire fangs that make a Slurpee-drinker appear to be in dire need of an orthodontist. The 99-cent spoon-straws are also available in skeleton, pumpkin and tell-tale heart varieties and make a great collectible treat for the little goblins who show up at the door this evening.
