Subway Helps Runner's Effort To Assist Cancer Survivor ProgramsChristian McEvoy's 3,500 Mile Run Fueled by SUBWAY Sandwiches
STRATFORD, CONNECTICUT (Wednesday, December 13, 2006) -
Long distance runner Christian McEvoy recently stopped by a new SUBWAY® restaurant in Stratford, Connecticut, as he began the last leg of his run across the United States to raise awareness and funding for cancer survivorship programs. Christian, a Connecticut high school English teacher, has completed about 3,300 miles of his west-to-east trek from California to Rhode Island. He estimates that he has eaten about 1,200 inches of SUBWAY sandwiches along the way (that's 200 six-inch subs). SUBWAY® restaurants, one of the run's corporate sponsors, provided Christian and his support team with meals. "SUBWAY made our life on the road possible," Christian said. "We're running for 10 million cancer survivors and SUBWAY helped make it happen." SUBWAY® Franchisees Bob and Carola Camillo were pleased to greet Christian and his team of fellow runners, friends, supporters and a documentary film crew at their Stratford restaurant for breakfast, as they began the final portion of their journey. Bob said the run, titled "Coast to Coast: A Run for Survivorship," is a natural fit with the message of the SUBWAY® brand. – continued – DOCTOR'S ASSOCIATES INC. • 325 Bic Drive • Milford • CT • 06461 Phone (203) 877-4281 / (800) 888-4848 • Fax (203) 876-6674 www.subway.com - 2 - "This run benefits a good organization and promotes eating fresh and healthy," said Bob, who also owns a nearby SUBWAY® restaurant in the local Wal-Mart® store.
