Farmer Boys Foods, Inc. Is Opening New Development Projects In Bakersfield, Ca

BAKERSFIELD, CA (Sunday, June 01, 2003) - After more than twenty years of operation in the Inland Empire, Farmer Boys will soon have restaurants in Bakersfield for the first time. The 28-unit chain recently granted two area development agreements which will bring as many as six to eight restaurants to that community over the next five years, according to Demetris Havadjias, company president. "Bakersfield is an attractive market for us because the demographics there are very similar to those of the markets we already serve successfully," Havadjias says. "It is an ideal next step for us and we look forward to continued growth as Farmer Boys expands into this and other new markets." "This should enable us to continue the growth pattern we have established over the past two years," says Don Tucker, director of franchising for the company. The Riverside-based chain has nearly doubled its number of locations in that time period, with ten additional stores either currently or soon-to-be under construction. One area development agreement was granted to Bakersfield Eight, Inc., while the other was awarded to Baker Foods, Inc. The principles in each of these companies are current Farmer Boys franchisees, one in Irwindale, the other in Chino. Each area developer plans to open multiple restaurants in Bakersfield. Irwindale franchisees John Suen and Sherry Lin of Bakersfield Eight say the signing represents the most important day in their lives. "I am more excited than ever to be a part of the Farmer Boys family," says Lin. "This is especially true now as it continues to grow and expand into new markets." "Farmer Boys has been very well-received in Chino," says a spokesman for Baker Foods. "The restaurant has developed a loyal customer base and we look forward to taking the knowledge gained here and applying it in bigger and better ways as we help introduce the ‘fresh food fast' concept to a new market." Farmer Boys Food, Inc. is an operator and franchisor of 28 fast casual restaurants located in Southern California. The first Farmer Boys restaurant opened in 1981 and the company began offering franchises in 1997. The restaurants offer fresh food fast with a diverse menu of over 80 breakfast, lunch, and dinner items. All items are made-to-order and are served directly to the table in 5-7 minutes. Drive-thru and carryout service is also available. Popular menu offerings include award-winning burgers, gourmet salads, freshly-prepared sandwiches, and signature side items such as monster-sized onion rings and deep-fried zucchini.
