Tyler Rogers and his mother Connie stay with relatives while undergoing treatment.

MEMPHIS, TN (Thursday, October 19, 2006) - For the past several years the Rogers family from Olympia, Washington, have traveled to Tennessee to stay with relatives for the Memphis in May Barbecue Contest. This summer no one could imagine that in less than two months the Rogers would return to Memphis in a real life contest to save their son's life. After returning to Olympia in May, Tyler Rogers fell ill with a Medulloblastomas brain tumor. Medulloblastomas are tumors that develop in the cerebellum, the part of the brain called the posterior fossa. They usually occur in children, particularly between the ages of three and eight, and make up about one in five of all childhood brain tumors. Tyler's mother Connie phoned her cousin Kathy Bowling in Memphis to deliver the devastating news. Kathy and her husband Lee encouraged the Rogers to come back to Memphis this time to seek help at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. For the Rogers it was an easy decision because they were familiar with the world- class facilities and doctors at St. Jude. The Bowlings opened their home to the Rogers from July 5 to August 31, while Tyler underwent radiation treatment. Both families knew that Tyler would be back soon to undergo chemotherapy and that the effects of the treatment might require a change in the living environment. Tyler (more) DUCTZ Memphis/Add Two was willing to make the trip, but he wanted to stay with the Bowlings again—not in a place where he was reminded that he was sick. "We had several options, but he really wanted to feel like he was at home while he was away from home," said Tyler's mother. The families contacted the doctors at St. Jude and were relieved when they agreed to the arrangements. However, to ensure that Tyler would be safe from harmful germs and bacteria, the doctors were adamant that the air duct system in the Bowling's home be professionally cleaned. "We were willing to do anything for Tyler and we knew it was something we should have done a long time ago for ourselves," said Lee Bowling. You might think that outdoor air poses a greater risk, but the Environmental Protection Agency reports that the indoor air is actually four to five times more polluted. Compounding the problem is that today's energy efficient homes are surprisingly effective at trapping harmful airborne particles including dust, mold, and pollen. The primary setting for these contaminants is the air duct system because its moist, temperate environment creates an ideal habitat for fungi and bacteria to grow. Lee Bowling knew just what to do. Lee owns ON DOODY Pet Waste Removal Services in Cordova, Tennessee, and is a member of the Memphis chapter of the National Small Business Association. He immediately contacted chapter founder Robert Staub to see if there was a member who cleaned air ducts. A chain of good fortune linked Lee to Carl Greenway, owner of the DUCTZ air duct cleaning franchise of Memphis. When contacted, Carl not only offered to clean the ducts immediately, but he also offered to clean the entire air duct system for free. The Rogers and Bowling were elated, and on September 21, Carl's team of professionally trained and industry certified (more) DUCTZ Memphis/Add Three technicians, used the DUCTZ patented DUCTBUSTERS® restoration process involving 124 exact and distinct tasks to clean the ducts and vents throughout the house. Steve, Connie, and Tyler to their delight moved into the Bowling home September 21. The chemotherapy treatments will last through January 2007. But, the Rogers know that the familiar surroundings, the family support system, and the indoor-air quality will keep Tyler's spirits high and his outlook clear. "We were glad we could make a little boy's wish come true," said Greenway.
