"The Mailman" Now Delivers Eggs And Bacon: Nba Star Karl Malone To Open Huddle House Franchise In Home State Louisiana
(Thursday, August 24, 2006) -
Karl Malone, noted as one of the best players in the NBA to ever step on a court, is now trying out his hand as a restaurateur. The former NBA All-Star power forward known as "The Mailman" has signed a deal to open a Huddle House franchise location in his home state of Louisiana in Farmerville by the end of this year.
"When somebody with the celebrity status and business vernacular of Karl Malone joins the Huddle House franchise family, it's a tremendous testament to the strength of brand," said Philip M. Greifeld, Chief Executive Officer of Huddle House, Inc. "Huddle House thrives in small town America, and Karl has strong emotional ties to communities like that in Louisiana. We're thrilled to have him on board, and we know he will certainly 'deliver' for the Huddle House brand."
Malone, whose other business ventures include a lumber company and several car dealerships, was born in Bernice, LA and currently resides in Choudrant, LA. He played college basketball at Louisiana Tech. Malone's full service Huddle House family restaurant will be located on Main Street in Farmerville.
Huddle House, a 400-unit nationwide franchise, offers a wide variety of cooked to order food, fresh off the grill for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Known for serving any meal, all day, Huddle House features signature "Big House" breakfast and sandwich platters, lunchtime salads and USDA Choice steak dinners. Greifeld said he expects Huddle House to continue opening new locations at a steady pace.
"We have enjoyed positive comparable sales growth for over 40 years which is a direct result of partnering with quality franchisees such as Trifecta," Greifeld stated.
Malone's franchise company, Trifecta, includes three partners -- Malone, John Crow and Andrew Trotter. Trotter will act as operating partner of the Farmerville Huddle House and brings multi-unit restaurant management experience to the team, most recently with Sonic.
"With consistent positive store sales and solid franchise expansion growth over the last three years, Huddle House continues to buck economic trends to reign as the No. 1 choice of sit-down restaurants in small towns around the country," Greifeld said. "Even in brand new markets outside the deep south where nobody has heard of Huddle House, our new restaurants enjoy strong sales and a loyal following. Our small-town location strategy is extremely successful, which is why we are able to attract quality franchisees such as the Karl Malone Trifecta group."
