Subway" Restaurants Honored With Atlas Van Lines Operators And "Good Sam" Club Member Awards
Sandwich Chain Again Named as a Favorite of Thousands Along the Road
(Monday, October 16, 2006) -
For the second consecutive year, the SUBWAY® restaurant chain has been honored with a pair of awards bestowed by North America's "road warriors" – vacationers traveling in their recreational vehicles, and from professional moving van operators guiding their cargos from coast to coast. Convenience matters for these motorists across the U.S. and Canada, where there are now more than 22,500 SUBWAY® restaurants to visit and enjoy – that's more locations than any other restaurant chain. Atlas Van Lines – the nation's second largest moving van company – has released the results of its "King of the Road 2006" Atlas Survey of Van Operator Tendencies, offering "a unique perspective about life on the road with America's best relocation company." When asked, "What is your favorite fast food restaurant?," the "King of the Road 2006" survey named the SUBWAY® chain as the pro van operators' number one choice at 33% preferred (well up from 2005's 26% of respondents) - far beyond totals for Wendy's (25%), KFC (13%), Taco Bell and Arby's (10% each), Opinions were tallied from 32 states in the USA and two Canadian provinces, suggesting that Atlas van operators continue to trade in their greasy burgers and fries for SUBWAY® restaurants' healthier road food options. Members of the Good Sam Club, which is the world's largest membership organization of nearly one million RV enthusiasts, have again selected SUBWAY® restaurants as its "2006 awardwinning Sandwich Shop," noting that "The Welcome Mat Award recognizes those businesses that know how to successfully accommodate recreational vehicles and their owners." The Welcome Mat Awards, which began in 2002, are given to businesses and organizations located in the United States and Canada that demonstrate a high level of service to RVers. The million Good Sam Club members cast their votes during balloting process for their favorite RV-friendly businesses and organizations. Appreciative SUBWAY® franchisees were represented at the 2006 Welcome Mat Awards presentation, held at the Daytona International Speedway on Florida's east coast. "Welcome Mat Awards are our way of recognizing the people and businesses that work hard every day to make the life of an RVer easy and enjoyable," said Sue Bray, Executive Director of the Good Sam Club. "These winners exemplify how important it is to keep RVers on the road and in the lifestyle." American RV ownership has reached record levels, according to a 2005 University of Michigan study. Approximately 8.2 million recreational vehicles travel the nation's roads, while nearly one in 12 U.S. vehicle-owning households owns an RV – a 15 percent increase during 2001-2005. About SUBWAY® Restaurants Now in its 41st year, the SUBWAY restaurant chain is the world's largest submarine sandwich franchise, with more than 26,500 locations in 85 countries.
