Company Announces Expansion Of Combo Meal Choices; Promotion Begins This Week On National Tv

(Thursday, June 01, 2006) - Wendy's® continues to revolutionize the way people think about quick-service restaurant combo meals.

Greater Variety, Nutritious Choices

Starting this week, Wendy's will give customers the option of substituting a yogurt and granola cup or Baked! Lay's® for French fries when ordering a regular combo meal. With these additions, customers can choose from seven different quality side items when ordering a combo meal at the hamburger restaurant chain:


Caesar Side Salad
Side Salad
Baked potato
Small Chili (low fat, high fiber)
Low-fat, strawberry flavored yogurt
Baked! Lay's potato crisps
French fries
There is no additional cost for selecting any one of these items when ordering a combo meal. Wendy's will be actively promoting these combo options on national television throughout the month of June.

In addition, bottled Dasani® water can be ordered in a combo with a Frescata™ sandwich, hamburger of chicken sandwich. Dasani was added to the menu in April 2006.

In December 2004, Wendy's began offering the two side salads, baked potato and the small chili as side options in lieu of French fries. Based on the positive consumer response, this effort is now being expanded to include the yogurt and Baked! Lay's.

More Kids' Meal Choices

In addition, Wendy's will be promoting the expansion of its Kids' Meal Choices Menu later this month. The menu now includes two new nutritious deli sandwiches (roasted turkey breast and cheese, and Black Forest ham and cheese) as well as the low-fat yogurt and granola cup.

Parents can substitute the yogurt cup or mandarin oranges for French fries at no additional charge when ordering for their children. They can also substitute 2% reduced fat white milk or 1% low-fat chocolate milk for the soft drink.

In July 2005, Wendy's began offering families both white and chocolate milk, as well as mandarin oranges, as Kids' Meal options. Since that time, milk sales have averaged about 750,000 units per week. This compares to 54,000 weekly units before Wendy's introduced its popular Kids' Meal Choices program.

The new deli sandwiches join traditional hamburger, cheeseburger and chicken nugget entrée selections. In total, customers can now select from five kid-sized entrees, three sides and a variety of beverages to create a Kids' Meal combo.
