at the Culver's "So Good, It's Gone! Cross-Town Charity Challenge"
CHICAGO (Friday, June 30, 2006) -
Culver's® is raising the stakes in the hotly contested Cross-Town Classic with a wiffle ball battle for charity between Cubs and White Sox faithful. Already known for fresh frozen custard and savory ButterBurgers® cooked to order, the Culver's "So Good, It's Gone! Cross-Town Charity Challenge" will transform the South Lawn of the Lincoln Park Zoo into a regulation wiffle ball field on Friday, June 30. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., fans and resident zoo animals will witness Cubs and Sox fans, former players, political leaders and celebrities engage in a head-to-head competition for charitable bragging rights. Joined by Culver's co-founder Lea Culver, former Cubs All-Star Bill Madlock and White Sox slugger Ron Kittle will serve as team captains and help motivate fans to swing for the fences at the newly erected Culver's Field. Firefighters who serve Wrigley Field and U.S. Cellular Field and 11th Ward Alderman James Balcer will be on hand for some friendly cross-town competition. Culver's Co-Founders Craig and Lea Culver will present Cubs Care and Chicago White Sox Charities with commemorative checks at Wrigley Field just before the 1:20 p.m. ballgame. Fans will have three swings to place a fair ball for charity. Culver's will donate $10 for each single, $25 for each double, $50 for each triple and $100 for each home run to the batter's choice of Cubs or White Sox charities. Culver's will donate up to $20,000 to these charities as a result of fan participation. Fans will also have the chance to sample Culver's frozen custard, a premium ice cream made fresh throughout the day, everyday at Culver's. Made with fresh milk from America's dairy farmers and a touch of egg yolk, Culver's frozen custard is always cold, velvety-smooth and delicious. "Culver's has 68 restaurants in the state of Illinois, serving fresh frozen custard to Chicagoans for more than 10 years," said Craig Culver, co-founder of Culver's Frozen Custard. "Culver's support for Cubs and White Sox charities through this fun event is a great example of our operating philosophy: the communities we touch and the quality of what we serve to families is an everyday priority." - more - Page 2 of 2 Sox supporters will be batting for Chicago White Sox Charities (CWSC), which provides annual financial, in-kind and emotional support to hundreds of Chicago-based organizations, including those leading the fight against cancer or dedicated to improving the lives of Chicago's youth through education and athletics. With the generous support of White Sox fans, friends and sponsors, CWSC has donated millions of dollars since its inception in 1990, striving to improve the quality of life for Chicagoans of all ages, races and genders. Cubs fans will be supporting Cubs Care, the charitable beneficiary of the Chicago Cubs and a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation. Cubs Care focuses its giving in the city of Chicago and makes monetary grants to organizations that aid children who have special needs, victims of domestic violence and youth sports programs. To date, Cubs Care has granted more than $8 million dollars in support to the Chicago community.
