Bell Canada First To Launch Secure Online Storage Service For Consumers

Bell Sympatico Personal Vault delivers an interactive, online service to backup, access, and share important personal content

(Monday, October 16, 2006) - Bell Canada announced today the
availability of Personal Vault, a comprehensive new online storage solution
exclusively from Bell that offers security and peace of mind for Canadians to
backup, access and share vital and important personal information including
digital photos, financial records, music, and video files.
"Our customers have been telling us they want a safe place to store their
valuable digital photos and music with an ability to easily access this
information from any Internet connection." said Charlotte Burke, President,
Sympatico. "Bell has met this growing need with a solution that enables them
to safely store and share their personal content with friends and family."
As media libraries grow, personal computers (PCs) are being used
increasingly by individuals and families as a home for precious photo
memories, music, video, and financial files. Personal Vault has been designed
by Sympatico to allow High Speed Internet users to safely backup, access and
share important and often vulnerable data from any Internet-connected
computer.
"Unlike alternative backup solutions such as burning files to CD or DVD,
Personal Vault provides the peace of mind that important data will always be
automatically backed-up and protected from loss, corruption, and theft," added
Burke. "Bell is giving consumers the tools they need to get more from their
digital media, while being assured that their personal information and
memories are protected."
Sympatico is the first major Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Canada to
offer such a comprehensive solution. Personal Vault's features include:

<<
- 3 GB of space, enough for approximately 3,000 photos or 600 music
files;
- Automatic scheduling of content backup for secure storage;
- Access to Personal Vault from any computer connected to the Internet;
- The ability to password protect contents, and share specific files with
colleagues, friends or family;
- An easy option to send photos to retailers for professional
photofinishing.
>>

Bell plans to continue innovating in this area with future enhancements
such as integration with camera-phones and other mobile devices.
Once Personal Vault is ordered, the customer will receive an email with
instructions on how to download an install the Personal Vault software. After
installation, the customer selects files to backup, files are copied,
encrypted and sent to the secure Bell storage facility through the customer's
Internet connection. Once the files have been sent to Personal Vault, the
customer will be able to access and share selected files with family and
friends through a secure web portal.
Personal Vault is available to all High Speed Internet users across
Canada, and can be purchased on-line by credit card at Bell.ca. In addition,
existing Bell customers will be able to add Personal Vault charges to their
Bell bill later this year.
The monthly cost for Sympatico subscribers is $6 for 3 gigabytes of
storage. Additional storage is available for $4 per month for each additional
3 gigabytes. Customers who are not Bell Sympatico subscribers can also
purchase Personal Vault service for $7 a month for 3 gigabytes of storage and
$5 per month for each additional 3 gigabytes.
