Regina South Boston Pizza Franchisee Named Franchisee Of The Year
John and Carla Fraser take home top honour at annual franchisee awards
REGINA, SK (Tuesday, May 24, 2005) -
John Fraser, owner of the Boston Pizza at 4657 Rae Street in Regina, SK, has been named Boston Pizza International's 2004 Franchisee of the Year at a recent awards gala held in Cancun, Mexico.
"My success is a direct result of the great relationships I have with my management team, restaurant staff, and business partner, Bob Hawkins. I admire and respect everyone on my team and thank them for their hard work and loyalty," said Fraser, who became involved with Boston Pizza only seven years ago. "I share this award with the people I surround myself with."
Winners of the Franchisee of the Year Award are personally selected by Jim Treliving and George Melville, co-owners and co-chairmen of Boston Pizza International Inc. The award recognizes franchisees who have made a significant contribution to the Boston Pizza system by consistently ranking among the top in sales, quality assurance, community involvement, and overall business excellence.
"It's franchisees like John Fraser that keep Boston Pizza at the top of the casual dining industry in Canada," said Treliving. "The Franchisee of the Year Award recognizes his incredible enthusiasm, outstanding dedication and ongoing drive to operate a successful business and John is a terrific example of the quality franchisees at Boston Pizza."
John Fraser, 38, began his career in the restaurant industry more than 20 years ago, working at other Canadian casual dining concepts. Fraser was approached by his current business partner Bob Hawkins in 1997. Hawkins was the owner of the Boston Pizza restaurant in South Regina since the early 80s and was looking to bring in a new partner to take on more of the day-to-day operations. Fraser was the perfect person to fill this new role as he was looking at investing in a restaurant franchise.
Working together, the two formed a great partnership and discovered they had similar business philosophies in the way they treat employees and value staff.
Today, their Boston Pizza location on Rae Street continues to thrive.
Fraser has served on the Boston Pizza Franchisee Advisory Council for the past two years and represents all 10 Boston Pizza franchisees in Saskatchewan. He sees the advisory council as an important opportunity to provide feedback to Boston Pizza's corporate staff.
"The Franchisee Advisory Council allows us to share our views about what works, what doesn't, and how we can continue to grow and develop the system. We want to be the best casual dining experience," said Fraser.
As part of Boston Pizza's ongoing menu research and development, Boston Pizza has chosen Fraser's restaurant as one of 12 Boston Pizza locations across Canada to serve as a test store'. New menu items are tested here before they are launched nationally across the Boston Pizza chain. John's commitment to the system and overall excellence as a franchisee gave him the opportunity to be a part of the development process.
"We're always testing new menu items and techniques," said Fraser. "It's exciting to be involved in the process of continually enhancing the Boston Pizza brand."
Boston Pizza Regina South actively supports many local charities and organizations, including Kids Help Phone, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Multiple Sclerosis Local Chapter, CIBC's Run for the Cure, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Terry Fox Run, and Big Brothers of Regina, to name just a few.
"It's important to us to give back to the local community, which has been so supportive of our business," said Fraser, who lives in Regina with his wife Carla and their two children. "It also makes Regina a better place to live and raise a family."
Fraser also owns a Boston Pizza in Cambridge, Ontario and has plans to open additional locations in Eastern Canada in the near future.
"At Boston Pizza, customers are considered our guests," said Fraser. "Our goal is to go the extra mile and provide our guests with an outstanding dining experience each and every time."
