Wingstop Franchise Releases New Tv Spots: Reminds Pizza Industry To Stick To Pizza

New commercials feature Wingstop Spokesman Troy Aikman

(Thursday, June 29, 2006) - Wingstop began launching new 30-second TV spots in markets across the country in May. All four new commercials feature Troy Aikman, Wingstop's spokesman and recent Hall of Fame inductee. The "Stick to Pizza" commercial features two pizzeria employees that aren't sure what to do with an order of chicken wings. After attempting to toss the wings like pizza dough, they decide, "Maybe we should stick to pizza."

"There seem to be a lot of restaurants getting into the wing business," said Wingstop CEO Jim Flynn. "These new commercials are a fun way to remind consumers that if they want great chicken wings, they need to eat at Wingstop. We don't get sidetracked with other menu items and focus all of our efforts on being The Wing Experts™."

The new commercial "Give me a Minute" leaves Aikman with the tough decision on which is his favorite, Wingstop's traditional bone-in wings or the new boneless wings. After taking a moment to decide, Aikman's chance to announce his decision runs out just as the announcer ends the commercial.

Besides the made-to-order wings, their new ad entitled "FryStop" focuses on another reason why Wingstop has so many loyal customers – the fresh-cut seasoned fries. But as Aikman points out, FryStop just doesn't have the same ring to it.

In the final 30-second spot, "Troy's Favorites," Aikman announces that Garlic Parmesan and Lemon Pepper are his two favorite of Wingstop's nine secret sauces.

About Wingstop
Wingstop offers restaurants with a nostalgic, aviation-themed atmosphere where the sole focus is on chicken wings. The chain now serves boneless wings that are made from 100 percent all-white meat chicken breast coated with a proprietary batter and breading. Wingstop features nine wing flavors, including Original Hot, Cajun, Atomic, Mild, Teriyaki, Lemon Pepper, Hawaiian, Garlic Parmesan, and Hickory Smoked BBQ. The wings are always made-to-order and served steaming hot. Customers also choose from homemade side dishes: fresh-cut seasoned fries, bourbon baked beans, pearl potato salad, creamy cole slaw, vegetable sticks, rolls and assorted dipping sauces. Wingstop has more than 500 restaurants either open or under development in 25 states and consistently tops industry growth rankings. Wingstop was chosen Festival Favorite Restaurant at the 2005 National Buffalo Wing Festival and their Cajun sauce took first place honors for the Best Creative Spicy Sauce in the festival's blind taste test. In July 2005, Wingstop ranked No. 13 in Restaurant Business' Top 50 Growth Chains (ranked by percentage increase in units) and was ranked the No. 1 chicken wing chain by Entrepreneur magazine in 2005. Troy Aikman, three-time Super Bowl champion and NFL Hall of Fame inductee, signed on as the chain's national spokesman in 2003.
