Carl's Jr.(r) Organizes May Campaign To Fight Breast Cancer

Restaurant Donation Program Raises Breast Cancer Awareness - and Funds

(Wednesday, May 03, 2006) - Carl's Jr. restaurants are rallying customers and employees to join them in a month-long in-store fund-raiser benefiting breast cancer awareness and research this May.

The second annual promotion begins May 3, with almost 1,000 Carl's Jr.
restaurants participating across the western United States. For each $1 donation, restaurant guests will receive a personalized commemorative Happy Star(TM) cutout to place on a restaurant lobby display. Guests who make donations will also receive a coupon redeemable for a free beverage on a future visit. "We at Carl's Jr. are proud to be known as leaders in supporting our local communities," said Andrew F. Puzder, president and CEO.
"It is our goal to raise more than $300,000 and provide valuable support to
organizations such as the National Breast Cancer Foundation, which continues to save lives through promoting the early detection of breast cancer.
Together with our franchise community, we will mobilize nearly 1,000 of our
restaurants as donation sites in support of this cause and we encourage
everyone to visit their local Carl's Jr. and do so as well."

The 2005 program, supported by the Carl's Jr. Star Franchise Association,
raised more than $175,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF),whose mission is to save lives by increasing awareness of breast cancer through education and providing mammograms to those in need. "Last year we were thrilled to see our employees and guests so excited to support the in-
store donation program," said Dan Gjurgevich, president of the Carl's Jr. Star Franchise Association. "Our goal was to sell 200 stars per unit and we more
than doubled that. This promotion has shown us what we can do as a group of
individual business owners when we work together for a common cause - we
gratefully look forward to everyone's support again this year."

According to the NBCF, more than 211,000 American women will be diagnosed
with breast cancer this year -- and 43,300 will die. One woman in eight either has or will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. In addition, 1,600
men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and 400 will die. If
detected early, the five-year survival rate exceeds 95 percent. Mammograms
are among the best early-detection methods, yet 13 million U.S. women 40 years
of age or older have never had a mammogram.
