Spring Into Action: Mr. Appliance® Offers A To-do List For Spring Cleaning

(Monday, February 27, 2006) - With spring fever spreading, it's time to come out of hibernation, and for many homes that means spring cleaning. But for appliances, which keep running no matter what season, it's a much-needed time of revival. "As you clean and de-clutter your home, take the time to check the appliances in your kitchen and laundry room," said Doug Rogers, chief operating officer for Mr. Appliance. "The proper maintenance can improve the way your appliances run and even prevent potential disasters." Follow this to-do list from Mr. Appliance for a clean sweep of keeping your appliances in tip-top shape: 1. Clean oven and stovetop o Open windows or doors for additional ventilation before running the self-cleaning cycle o Soak drip pans in hot water and remove remaining stains with a nonabrasive cleaner 2. Sanitize dishwasher o Run empty dishwasher with a cup of white vinegar to eliminate odors and buildup 3. Deodorize garbage disposal o Place a handful of ice cubes and lemon, orange or lime peels in the disposal; run with cold water for 15 to 30 seconds (continue to rinse with cold water) 4. Clear dirt off refrigerator's condenser coils o Unplug refrigerator and use a vacuum to remove dust from the coils o Keeping the coils free of dirt will help it run more efficiently and trim utility bills 5. Remove lint buildup from dryer o Disconnect, clean and inspect the exhaust duct and vents or hire a licensed appliance professional to check it out for you o Clean the lint screen and filter before or after each load of clothes to deter fires 6.
