Wilkie To Walk Across Gobi Desert To Fight Cancer
(Tuesday, May 09, 2006) -
Vice President Neil Wilkie, assigned to our Southern UK Regional Office, will participate in the 250km (155 mile) Gobi March 2006, to begin on 27 May, 2006.
The Gobi March will consist of six stages across the Gobi Desert in northwest China. He'll have to carry all his own food and all the gear that he'll need to live on during the trek. He'll carry that on his back; only a provision of water and a space in a tent will be provided each day.
The Gobi Desert is the world's largest cold winter desert with temperatures as high as 50c daytime and -10c in the evenings. His progress can be tracked at www.racingtheplanet.com
Neil is participating to honour the memory of his late sister Lynn, who passed away in 1999, while he is also helping raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Local UK Marie Curie Hospices actively promote quality of life for people with cancer and provide support for their families. The services are completely free to patients.
Those interested in making a donation to Neil's worthy charitable endeavour are urged to view http://www.justgiving.com/neilwilkie
Thank you.
