Long John Silver's® Offers Three Free Shrimp To America And A Television Commercial Appearance For One Lucky Child!

(Monday, November 14, 2005) - Saying "Three Free Shrimp" three times fast is a bit of a tongue-twister, but Long John Silver's customers who are willing to give it a try can be rewarded with three free shrimp. And one lucky youngster who masters the tongue-twister will win the chance to appear in a Long John Silver's national television commercial.

Between now and Jan. 8, 2006, each Long John Silver's customer will receive three free batter-dipped shrimp when ordering any "& More" meal (including Fish & More®, Chicken & More, Shrimp & More and Clams & More). Customers will also be invited to try their luck at saying "Three Free Shrimp" three times fast.

"It sounds easy, but it's not," said Steve Provost, Chief Marketing Officer for Long John Silver's. "We found out that ‘three free shrimp' is a tongue-twister by accident. When we were discussing the promotion, we learned that practically everyone had problems saying it. So we decided to have some fun with it."

The fun begins with a television commercial that illustrates how difficult it can be to say "three free shrimp," and a web site dedicated to tongue-twisters: www.3freeshrimp.com.

In addition, Long John Silver's is announcing the "Three Free Shrimp Tongue-Twister Challenge." Parents are invited to submit VHS videos of their children saying "Three Free Shrimp" three times fast. Videotapes can be dropped off at any participating Long John Silver's restaurant by Dec. 8 or mailed to the company by Dec. 13.

The star of the winning video will be invited to make an appearance in a national television commercial for Long John Silver's in 2006. (Visit www.3freeshrimp.com to view complete contest rules.) The winner will be announced before the end of December.

Dr. Frank Nuessel, a University of Louisville professor of Linguistics whose area of research includes word games like tongue-twisters, will serve as judge for the competition.

"Three Free Shrimp" is a great tongue-twister because the three words force you to articulate sounds in three different parts of the mouth. That makes it difficult and challenging," Nuessel said. "I'm anxious to see the videos that are submitted for the contest, and I'm sure picking a winner will be as challenging as saying the tongue-twister."

Visitors to www.3freeshrimp.com can find out the answers to all their questions about tongue-twisters. Dr. Nuessel will answer questions ranging from "What makes a tongue-twister a tongue-twister?" to "Why are tongue-twisters popular with kids and adults?" Visitors can also vote for their favorite tongue-twisters and view video of contestants taking the Tongue-Twister Challenge.
