Ten more stores to open

SAN BERNARDINO (Saturday, April 08, 2006) - Angelo Kairis comes to Juice It Up for the nutritional value offered by its myriad smoothies and other drinks.

"It's a healthy alternative to soda and all that,'' the Grand Terrace draftsman said while at the company's San Bernardino store, 745 E. Hospitality Lane.

The typical price of an average-sized smoothie containing energy-boosting and herbal powder formulas is $3.95.

Smaller ones are usually 50 cents less, and larger ones $1 more.

The Irvine-based smoothie chain, which also offers nutritional supplements and organic coffees, will open 10 new locations in San Bernardino County by 2007, bringing the total number of its places in the county to 24, said Larry Sidoti, vice president of business development and founder.

A new Juice It Up on Mountain Avenue near Interstate 10 in Ontario is scheduled to open in June. Other new locations planned are in Rancho Cucamonga, Chino, Redlands, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Fontana and Ontario as well.

Chino, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Upland, San Bernardino and Victorville are among the sites of current locations.

"We've got them going all over the place," said Sidoti.

Completely natural fruit or vegetable juices, protein shakes and energy-boosting formulas are offered at Juice It Up in addition to smoothies made with blended fruit, coffee, chai tea and other flavors.

Sidoti founded the chain in 1995.

Being vice president of business development has advantages, he said.

"I like bringing in new franchisees, and I like doing the real-estate part of the business," said Sidoti.

Franchisees, like Jay and Vivian Akely, who own the Hospitality Lane location, have an upbeat impression of their work with the company.

Juice It Up is accommodating to its franchise owners, said Jay Akely.

"They support us real well with our service needs, both marketing and advertising, and food support," he said. "They set up all the vendors. Juice It Up is more than happy to act as a go-between if there's any issues we might have."

The company keeps current on nutritional findings, said Vivian Akely.

"They're very progressive in the concept that they're selling. They keep updating themselves with new health-trends research," she said.

Juice It Up's array of flavors appeals to Desiree Flores, an office manager from Riverside.

"They have a variety of everything," said Flores, who was in the Akelys' store earlier this week.

The Seabreeze Squeeze smoothie, with its combination of cranberry and apple juice, among other flavorings, is her favorite.

The natural taste of the smoothies brings Laura Ochoa, a collections representative, to Juice It Up on Hospitality Lane.

"The flavors are real, not chalky or fake," she said
