Two Veteran Franchisors Join Saladworks – As Franchisees
John Tumolo and Ken Moran Act as Valuable Resources for Fellow Franchisees and the Home Office
(Wednesday, April 26, 2006) -
Saladworks, the nation's first and fastest growing fresh-tossed salad franchise, has already successfully capitalized on the consumer trend toward healthy eating. Now, the popular salad concept is "tossing" a new trend around the franchise industry – franchisors becoming franchisees.
This past fall, Saladworks welcomed John Tumolo, the former president and co-owner of Rita's Water Ice, into its franchise system. Tumolo had spent more than 15 years in the franchisor role at Rita's, focusing most of his efforts on building the brand that he helped establish. He decided to switch gears and join the Saladworks family, but this time, as a franchise owner. Tumolo purchased a majority-interest in a Saladworks in Hillsborough, NJ, and plans to have four locations total open by the end of 2006.
"As a former franchisor, I can appreciate what Saladworks expects from me as franchisee because I have been in their shoes working with franchisees for over 15 years," Tumolo said. "Franchisors are there to support their franchise owners. I used to be in that support role, so it's nice to be on the other side for a change." In addition, Saladworks also recently awarded a franchise to Ken Moran, who previously served as Vice President of Operations with Rita's. Like Tumolo, Moran felt he could take the knowledge he gained as a franchise executive and transfer it to success at the franchisee level.
John Scardapane, chairman and CEO of Saladworks, said he is honored to have such distinguished and experienced individuals from within the franchise industry join the Saladworks system.
"Having John Tumolo and Ken Moran join the Saladworks family further illustrates the credibility of our deep rooted culture, brand loyalty and passion to be the best. Being both knowledgeable and seasoned professionals in the food franchise industry, they will serve to mentor and inspire other associates and franchisees in the Saladworks system," Scardapane said. "Obviously, they have what it takes to be successful franchisees within a system in which everyone believes in each other very deeply." Currently, Saladworks is expanding its presence in select states, taking advantage of the salad explosion playing out in markets all across the country. Saladworks has 74 locations operating across in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Delaware, Maryland, Illinois and Washington, D.C.
Saladworks shows its true innovation by displaying its salad choices for the customer to see. After ordering a custom made salad from ingredients that are cut each morning, customers can enjoy one of Saladworks' 12 signature dressings. Salads range from traditional, such as a garden salad, to exciting, with selections like the Turkey Club salad or the Bently™ salad that has hearthstone baked ham, oven browned turkey and Italian provolone cheese.
About Saladworks Saladworks, the nation's first fresh-tossed salad franchise concept operates 74 franchise-operated restaurants in seven states throughout the Eastern United States. The chain has enjoyed over a 30% growth rate for the last few years and is on track to maintain that rate of growth over the next 5 years. Using its innovative step-by-step regional expansion method, Saladworks plans to have more than 200 locations open in the next five years. Saladworks locations offer a healthy menu of flavorful salads with signature dressings, as well as complimentary menu items.
