Ident-a-kid Has Been Helping Parents For 20 Years
ST. PETERSBURG, FL (Saturday, March 25, 2006) -
Ident-A-Kid Services of America, Inc. celebrated its 20-year milestone by sponsoring a Safety Day for students at High Point Elementary in Clearwater on March 24, 2006. The celebration includes representatives from area law enforcement and fire departments. High Point Principal Kevin Gordon says "Ident-A-Kid is a great organization providing an invaluable service to our parents."
Ident-A-Kid was founded by Robert King in 1986 after a close friend's child went missing. Mr. King made his friend an ID card and thought this service should be available to as many parents as possible. He soon developed a system and offered the first program through High Point Elementary in south Clearwater, Florida.
Ident-A-Kid Services of America, Inc. has been providing child identification to parents for 20 years. They provide a driver's license-sized card that contains a complete physical description of a child that includes a professional full-color photograph and a fingerprint by using a special digital touch pad that meets national standards. The back of the card contains important information regarding what to do when your child is missing. The entire card is heat-seal laminated in heavy plastic for durability. It is designed for parents, guardians, relatives or baby-sitters to carry at all times should they ever be faced with a situation where they need to present a complete description of a child. The card should be updated annually as the child ages and descriptions change.
"When parents are faced with a situation where their child has gone missing, many times they lose their composure and ability to describe the child," said Rick Hagan, President of Ident-A-Kid. "Time is of the essence in situations like these, and Ident-A-Kid cards help to expedite the process by providing officials with up-to-date information, so they can locate the child as quickly as possible."
Nearly one million children go missing each year, and the U.S. Department of Justice's statistics say one out of every 42 children is at risk of being missing. The Ident-A-Kid Program hopes to aid in reducing these statistics as word spreads about the Program and parents better prepare themselves for the situation they hope they never have to face. Ident-A-Kid currently has more than 200 programs in the United States. Its services are now offered to parents through thousands of public and private schools throughout the country, and more than three million Ident-A-Kid cards are produced annually.
