Drive To Educate And Innovate Earns Top Business Award For Huntington Learning Center

(Wednesday, July 27, 2005) - When Dr. Raymond and Eileen Huntington opened their first "learning
center" in Oradell, New Jersey 27 years ago, they had no idea that their
model for education and innovation would lead to more than 250 such
centers in 36 states. They also never expected to earn the top honor
from the association that serves as the national voice for other likeminded
educators and businesspeople who have made educational
achievement their life's work. But on July 21, 2005, they stood together
at the podium to receive the Education Industry Association's James P.
Boyle Entrepreneurial Leadership Award.

"As a reading teacher in Bronx, New York, I saw firsthand the many
challenges that families and schools face in their effort to ensure that
all children receive the extra help they need to succeed," said Eileen
Huntington, in describing the couples' decision to open the center.
"We also saw a need for instruction that was truly tailored to the
specific needs of individual children—instruction that matched their
natural learning style, offered in a program built around measurable
benchmarks for success and specific learning goals in mind. We're
thrilled to receive this award—and thrilled to know that so many
students have discovered the joy and satisfaction of learning
and achievement."

The EIA's award is presented annually to an individual whose
achievements in the education industry exemplify qualities such as
courage, perseverance, and a determination to improve educational
opportunities for children. This year the award was presented to
Ray and Eileen Huntington together, as co-founders of Huntington
Learning Center.

"Ray and Eileen Huntington are beacons of leadership and success—to
their peers for their tremendous contributions to their profession, and to
the students who are the direct beneficiaries of their passion," said EIA
Executive Director Steve Pines. "They are deserving of our recognition,
our gratitude, and our respect."

Founded in 1977, Huntington Learning Center is the original provider
of supplemental education services to children in the United States.
Huntington offers K-12 students supplemental instruction in reading,
mathematics, phonics, spelling, vocabulary, writing, study skills and SAT
and ACT preparation, all of which are vital for continuing success in
school. Students who participate in Huntington's program become more
confident in their abilities, and more motivated to strive for long-term
academic achievement.
