Multi-salon Owner's Roots Are Behind The Chair

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN (Saturday, January 01, 2005) - Don't tell Carla Fryar that the hair care industry lacks growth opportunities. This one-time stylist has seen first-hand the abundant opportunities available to those entering the industry, but she also understands the reality of what it takes to move ahead.

One of the original stylists who started back in 1982 in the Minneapolis market, Carla has been on the fast track with Great Clips, holding nearly every position with the company; and she is now owner of seven salons in the Minneapolis area (with business partner Adrienne Olson). Carla was honored with the prestigious "Franchisee of the Year Award" at the Great Clips convention in 2000. That award, she said, "was the culmination of 20 years of growth and learning opportunities that I wouldn't trade for anything. They gave me the foundation I have today to run a very successful business." Carla launched her career with Great Clips as a stylist, then quickly moved into a management position, then corporate trainer, general manager, and now franchisee. And, from the beginning, she has put her heart and soul into every position.

"It's possible to do very well in this business," said Carla. "Whether you have an aspiration of running a high-volume salon or of becoming an owner like me, there is "I push myself to the outer limits. I always try to exceed my goals," she said. Always eager to offer her technical expertise and to test new systems in her salons, Carla is a "valuable asset to Great Clips," said Great Clips president Rhoda Olsen. Because of her background, she has a keen understanding of the needs of her staff at all levels."

"You have to really listen to people, listen to the undercurrent of what they're saying, and encourage them to succeed," Carla said. "By helping others reach their goals, I can reach my own."
