Golden Corral Franchisee Supports Local School By Conducting Cooking Class
CARY, N.C (Monday, October 01, 2001) -
Public support for education has never been greater and, in keeping with that sentiment, a franchised Golden Corral restaurant in Cary, N.C., has been conducting cooking lessons for a local school.
Seventh and eighth graders at Centennial Campus Middle School of Raleigh, N.C., a magnet school that serves 52 primary schools in the Triangle area, got hands-on lessons November 9 and 14 in all aspects of custom cooking from the Golden Corral pros.
Billy Sewell, CEO of Platinum Corral which operates six Golden Corrals in North Carolina, offered to host the students at his new Cary restaurant in Centrum Plaza shopping center after learning about the relatively limited cooking facilities at the school.
"We have more than 10,000 square feet of space and an experienced back-of-the-house team and it seemed like a perfect opportunity for us to help out," he said.
Dean of the Golden Corral faculty for these events was Debra Olson, recipe development manager for Golden Corral Corporation. She demonstrated how to prepare the perfect custom-designed omelet and gave students the opportunity to apply their newly-acquired skills.
"Cold cereal is the typical breakfast of many teenagers today, so I was particularly pleased with the students' enthusiasm for western omelets prepared with fresh vegetables, ham and cheese," she said. "They enjoyed sampling each other's omelets and are totally sold on the nutritional benefits of a freshly-prepared breakfast.
"Throughout the demonstrations, I and the kitchen co-workers at the restaurant wore latex gloves and we stressed the essential importance of food safety. The students really took this to heart."
