Golden Corral Franchisee Hu Odom Of Virginia Beach Wins Virginia Restaurant Neighbor Award

RICHMOND, VA. (Saturday, September 01, 2001) - Golden Corral franchisee Hu Odom of Virginia Beach has been chosen as the annual Restaurant Neighbor Award recipient for the state of Virginia.

Mr. Odom, whose BOTH, Inc. family of companies operate 15 Golden Corrals in the Tidewater Virginia area and neighboring states, will represent the Virginia Hospitality & Travel Association in the national competition sponsored by the National Restaurant Association. The winners will be announced at a Public Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C. during Sept. 24-26.

The Restaurant Neighbor Award recognizes single-unit and multi-unit restaurant operators who have been leaders in community activities. Mr. Odom's restaurants have raised contributions for Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, Hurricane Floyd flood relief, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Salvation Army and many other charities.

The signature project for Mr. Odom and his restaurants is Military Appreciation Night, a Veterans Day observation at which active duty service personnel and veterans receive a free steak dinner and other guests contribute to the Disabled American Veterans. Last year, the event raised $25,000 for the DAV and the USS Cole Fund. Military Appreciation Night has been so successful that it will be extended nationally in November in a partnership between Golden Corral Corporation and its Franchisees and the DAV.

Mr. Odom has received Golden Corral Corporation's Distinguished Service Award for four consecutive years. A three-time Chairman of the Golden Corral Franchise Advisory Council, his views on franchising are widely respected and have been reported in the New York Times.
