Savannah Area Golden Corrals Partner With Local Tv Station To Raise $56,000 For Red Cross Disaster Relief
SAVANNAH (Monday, October 01, 2001) -
Three franchised Golden Corral family restaurants in this area partnered last weekend with WTOC-TV, the local CBS television affiliate, to raise $56,000 for families of victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
The Savannah restaurant was the focal point of the three-day donation campaign which attracted a large number of visitors to its busy mall location, many of them drawn by remote telecasts and a host of energetic Red Cross volunteers who collected curbside. Breakfast was free for guests who gave $25. Golden Corrals in Statesboro, Ga., and Beaufort, S.C., also reported strong community support for the drive.
"I can't tell you how wonderful the Golden Corral folks were in hosting this campaign with just two days to prepare," said Ann-Marie Jones, Director of Public Support for Disaster Relief at the Savannah Chapter of the American Red Cross. "And the TV folks are real celebrities in our city and they made a big, big difference. Even though the drive is officially over, people are still coming by the restaurants to put money in the collection boxes."
